A review of excellent public a r t w o r k s wo r l dwi d e i n d i c a t e s t h a t t h e novel forms, structures and functions of these works are not only the result of applying creative thinking, but are mostly the products of drawing on knowledge and achievements in other art disciplines, humanities, and engineering disciplines a n d r e i n t e g r a t i n g t h e k n o w l e d g e a n d achievements to meet emerging needs. Only if we recognize that cross-disciplinary knowledge is a source of originality for p u b l i c a r t c a n w e f o r m u l a t e e f f e c t i v e policies on market opening, institutional guarantee, and educational system to boost the development of public art in China.
