Abstract:This article takes Form Construction Studies of Visual Communication Design of Yunnan University as an example to discover application of folk formative arts in teaching practice of art and design. In the teaching practice of Form Construction Studies, lead students to conduct field research, starting from the ethnic and folk formative arts, emphasizing cultural inheritance and ethnic aesthetic judgment, guide the student to creatively combine the points, lines, plane and entity in ethnic arts according to visual and aesthetic principles. Through the multi-dimensional study of the form construction, to deepen student’s understanding and cognition of the abstract elements, to develop the students' sense of visual innovation based on ethnic identity, provide a new strategy for the teaching of Form Construction Studies.
